Pumbeeri Spinning Tops

PUMbeeri is a wooden spinning top shaped from a single piece of wood and coloured with lac resin. Inspired by an Aboriginal design from the early 19th century, it brings together shape, rhythm and balance in a simple, expressive object.

For designer Tahir Mahmood, its whirling motion recalls the dance of the Sufi Dervish: turning like a compass pointing to the Divine, holding its ground with smoothness and simplicity.
