Honoring Craft: Introducing Master Potter Razi Bhai

At Tahir Mahmood Design, our work is deeply connected to craft traditions and the artisans who carry them forward. Behind every handmade object lies not just material and form, but stories, skills, and generations of knowledge that deserve to be celebrated.

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Razi Bhai — a master potter from Lahore and the 8th generation in his family to continue this timeless craft. His hands carry centuries of wisdom, shaping clay into vessels that embody both history and artistry.

Yet, like so many artisans across South Asia and beyond, his extraordinary talent remains under-utilized and undervalued. Systemic challenges, a lack of industry recognition, and limited opportunities often prevent craftspeople like him from earning the dignity and livelihood their work deserves.

This is more than just an individual story — it reflects a larger truth. Traditional crafts, passed down through families for centuries, risk being overlooked in a world driven by mass production. When we lose support for artisans, we risk losing irreplaceable cultural knowledge.

That’s why we want to extend an invitation:

  • To our friends, schools, colleges, and universities: collaborate, study, and engage with artisans like Razi Bhai to keep these crafts alive.

  • To designers and industry professionals: find ways to integrate handmade craft into your work and supply chains.

  • To customers and communities: support artisans directly by commissioning or purchasing their work.

By valuing these makers, we ensure that tradition not only survives, but thrives in contemporary practice.

If you’re in Lahore and would like to connect with him directly, you can reach Razi Bhai at +92 320 6800644 or visit him in Gajju Matta, Kahnu Nu, Lahore. 📍View Location

At Tahir Mahmood Design, we believe craft is more than just objects — it’s a living heritage. Supporting artisans like Razi Bhai is one way we can all help protect that heritage and ensure it continues to shape our shared future.
