EFNAN'S Cot

Some designs begin with a brief. This one began with family.

Efnan’s Baby Cot is a deeply personal wooden furniture design by Tahir Mahmood, created many years ago for his firstborn son. More than a design project, it marks a moment when his work as a designer became part of his own family’s story.

The cot’s warm golden tones, slatted wooden sides and colourful floral detail give it a playful, expressive character. Its distinctive form brings together the visual presence of a sculptural object and the intimacy of something made for one’s own child.

Tahir remembers it with affection and candour: despite a few technical challenges, it served his family for a couple of years and remains his favourite. That honest recollection is part of what makes this piece meaningful. Its value lies not only in its appearance, but in the life and memories connected to it.

Within Tahir Mahmood’s design work, Efnan’s Baby Cot tells a particularly personal story, one of fatherhood, creativity and the lasting emotional connection between a designer and an object made for someone he loves.
